New, spicy, generous.
A new winery, located in the Okanagan Valley, Lunessence launched in 2014 after taking over a property in Summerland.
Their philosophy is hidden also in their name: Lunessence where Luna=Moon + Essence. The essence of the Moon. Moon as an important part of biodynamic farming that they are implementing. There are no pesticides or herbicides used in their vineyards with a focus on natural wines. According to partner/winemaker Michal Mosney (he and his wife moved to Canada from Slovakia several years ago) they ideally use only native yeast, no, or minimal fining (only bentonite and time), and very light or no filtration at all.
This Syrah is a generous glass; rich back fruit and wild blackberry, licorice, vanilla, mocha, fine white pepper and baking spices lead the nose. It is stylish and approachable; peppery, sweet fruit, oak tones and tobacco flavours lounge on a fat palate. Fine textural tannins roll across the tongue, it has a boozy character.
